<previous Dante Alighieri wrote the Divine Comedy; a synthesis of scholastic and Franciscan philosophies, the whole thought of the medieval period and Greco-Roman antiquity ( Aristotle, Vergil, Ovid and Cicero confronts Boethius St Thomas d'Aquinas, St Francis). Interwoven Mathematics and religious symbolism span the three sections of the book: Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. Dante a Florentine, died 16 years before Giotto in exile in Ravenna.
