<previous Ibn Battutah, a muslim from Morocco, set off around 1330 for a long journey eastward across the islamic world. He reached Aden where he took a ship down the east coast of Africa. He even visited Russia before turning east on the Silk Road. By 1334, when Giotto was appointed master of the Building of Florence, Ibn Battutah was in Delhi in India staying there for eight years until he joined the ambassy from the Sultan to the emperor of China.
