<previous His most famous work is the series of frescoes of the Arena Chapel in Padua. This work was financed by Enrico Scrovegni whose father had made a fortune by lending money at exorbitant rates of interest. Dante [more] consigned Scrovegni to hell in his famous "Divine Comedy". It was later said that Scrovegni defended his family name against a verse by Dante with a church by Giotto.

These frescoes constitute a large narrative of the life of the Virgin and of the Christ. On the entrance wall is painted the Last Judgement and on the sides of the nave at the level of the viewer are the Allegories of Vices and Vertus. The top level illustrates the early life of the Virgin, the middle level, the early life of Christ and the bottom level the passion of the Christ.
